Supervising at the University

Postgraduate research supervision at the University is the responsibility of supervisory teams, led by the Director of Studies, or main supervisor.

Supervisors should have a defined role within the supervisory team, and work together to ensure that students are provided with academic support and are signposted to University services where appropriate.

Supervision meetings should take place on average at least once a month and must be recorded on the University's student portal, e-Vision.

Each supervisory team is supported by postgraduate tutors, who are based in each School to provide a point of contact and coordination for postgraduate research from enquiry stage onwards. Postgraduate tutors also provide a point of contact for the Graduate School.

Each School also has a senior academic lead for postgraduate research. These roles are typically held by professors or associate professors, and work to ensure a strong environment for postgraduate research students and their supervisors within their School. The leads also work with the Graduate School to identify, deliver and evaluate initiatives in support of postgraduate research in the University.
