Access practical guidance to help you effectively manage apprentices throughout their programme and support their ongoing development.
Training is provided at the start and throughout the academic year to support managers and mentors with their understanding of the apprenticeships, and to help you maximise the potential of your apprentice.
Apprentice progress is tracked using a Learner Management System (LMS) e-portfolio, where evidence is held of the review meetings, off-the-job training and academic module progression. As the employer, you will be given an account to view your apprentice's portfolio and have full visibility of their progress and evidence.
Progress reviews are typically undertaken remotely on Microsoft Teams and are attended by the line manager or mentor, the apprentice and the Apprenticeship Quality Coach (AQC). These are a key opportunity to assess how apprentices are progressing against their training plan. They ensure apprentices receive clear, meaningful feedback on all aspects of their apprenticeship, including KSB achievement, learning support, off-the-job hours, and development in maths and English, among other areas.
Progress review meetings will take place at least every 12 weeks and generally take up to an hour to complete. It is important that these meetings take place with all three parties present and each participant has input into the process, with an overall agreement made at the end of each meeting. These meetings form part of the Skills England rules and therefore can have a serious impact if they are not done in accordance with the regulations.
