Voyage Specialist Healthcare

Hartlepool-based Voyage Specialist Healthcare (DCA) North, part of the Voyage Care group, provides support nationally to people in their own homes and schools, enabling them to live as independently as possible.

It offers specific training plans for individual complex needs, put together by clinical managers and field support supervisors.

Clinical educator Andrea Kingston says: “The ongoing help we receive from the University team is absolutely invaluable and they have always been incredibly receptive to our calls for help, support and guidance since the moment Voyage Specialist Healthcare set sail on the journey of the nurse associate programme.

“Sitting back and watching our original four and now six trainee nursing associates (TNAs) develop their knowledge and skills in practice, reflect and learn from experiences, question practice and develop new ways of dealing with the sadness, joys and issues which arise from supporting people with complex clinical health needs in their own homes and schools, is testament to how the programme is working in the best possible way, in partnership, to develop a team of well-rounded professional healthcare practitioners for the future.

“I feel in particular that it really is this team approach across our organisations which is a big part of the successful training and development of our TNAs because they know and can see that we are working collaboratively to help them achieve their much-desired qualification and ongoing career in healthcare."

Course leader Mark Wheatley says: “It is a pleasure having staff from Voyage Care on the TNA programme. All are committed to the programme and enthusiastic in their approach to learning. Their contributions to the teaching sessions I have delivered have always been excellent and I can really see their confidence, knowledge and skills developing and growing."
