Why Teesside?

As Map Group’s headquarters is in Stockton, Teesside was the best option for its location. It also offered the ideal course for what Map were looking for and had great reviews.

How have you found your apprenticeship?

I have found the apprenticeship hugely beneficial to my role in the company. It has been interesting throughout, keeping me engaged and the lectures made sure I understood all assignments and modules. It has also been extremely valuable for my development, as I’ve been able to integrate new knowledge directly into my day-to-day tasks. While I found some modules, such as Sales and Marketing more challenging as they were less closely aligned with my role, they were still interesting and offered insights that could support other areas of my work.

What skills and knowledge have you applied directly to your role?

Learning about different management styles has been particularly valuable, as it has helped me effectively communicate with my colleagues, adapting my approach to suit different styles. Modules such as Digital Business and Project Planning have developed my technological skills, introducing me to new software such as Microsoft Project. Overall, the apprenticeship has also helped me gain more confidence.

What impact has the apprenticeship had?

Overall, the apprenticeship has helped me feel more confident in my position and contributing to different situations in the workplace. I have been able to apply many different aspects of the course that I otherwise would not be aware of, such as understanding how different personality types can influence management styles and team dynamics.

Tell us about the support from your employer and from Teesside University

Both have been extremely supportive throughout my apprenticeship, offering guidance at each stage. My academic mentor from the University has provided regular Teams meetings to discuss progress and allow me to raise any concerns I may have. We have also been allocated a supervisor for our final project, which gives me confidence knowing I have someone to go to with any questions for such a significant part of the course.

Would you recommend the course to others?

Yes, it offers a great opportunity to develop in your role and expand your knowledge across many areas of business. It has been hugely beneficial to my professional growth, and I would encourage anyone interested in progressing their career in business or management to consider it.
