Gormley painting the stellar prize at charity auction

29 May 2013

An original Antony Gormley painting, a European break and a VIP spa package – these are just some of the prizes up for grabs at a Teesside University charity auction.

And members of the public can now place bids for prizes online at a dedicated website .

The auction takes place at the Constantine Gala Dinner on the University’s campus on Saturday 15 June and will raise money for Teesside University’s Development Fund.

Antony Gormley OBE is a world-renowned British artist best known for creating the Angel of the North, and was awarded an honorary degree from Teesside University in 2004. He has donated an original striking painting titled ‘Bounding Condition’ from his personal collection to the auction.

Bids for auction prizes can be placed in the lead up to the event and during the auction itself.

As a charity, Teesside University is required to raise additional funds to enhance the experience it offers its students and to maximise the positive impact the University can make within the wider community. The University’s Development Fund raises money to support scholarships and student prizes, boost student and graduate employability, enrich campus facilities, enhance research and raise aspirations within the community.

Jane Hutchinson, Culture and Events Co-ordinator at Teesside University, said: 'We are delighted with the generosity of Antony Gormley to submit an original piece for our charity auction – I am sure it will generate a lot of interest.

'It is not just people attending the Gala Dinner who can bid. We would encourage everybody to take a look at the website and give themselves a chance of securing one of many fantastic prizes.'
