Teesside University strengthens long-standing partnership with Wuhan Polytechnic University

Teesside University welcomed a senior delegation from Wuhan Polytechnic University to celebrate more than two decades of successful collaboration and mark the beginning of a significant new phase in their partnership.

The relationship between the two institutions dates back to 2004 and is anchored in Teesside University’s transnational education undergraduate programme in Food Science and Engineering, delivered in Wuhan.

Over the years, the partnership has supported the academic development of hundreds of students and staff, with more than 200 Wuhan Polytechnic University students progressing to Teesside University to complete their degrees and lecturers joining as visiting scholars.

During their visit, the delegation from Wuhan Polytechnic University met with academic leaders from the School of Health & Life Sciences and toured the state-of-the-art BIOS facility.

The day culminated in the signing of a new agreement to launch dual degree exchange programmes across a wide range of academic disciplines, significantly expanding joint activity.

Wuhan Polytechnic University, based in the Hubei Province, is recognised as China’s earliest institution dedicated to training specialists in food supply and production.

Chairman of the Board at Wuhan Polytechnic University, Jigang Yan highlighted the importance of the partnership and outlined ambitious plans for the future.

He added: "Since establishing our partnership in 2004, Teesside University has remained a vital strategic partner for our institution. Today, we are pleased to announce a landmark expansion of this partnership.

“Together, we will launch dual degree exchange programmes at the undergraduate level across 16 academic disciplines, including Food Quality and Safety, Engineering, Computer Science, Civil Engineering, Finance, and Business Administration.

“This significant step marks the beginning of a new phase of comprehensive and in-depth development for our partnership, which has been nurtured over more than two decades, and opens a promising new chapter in our shared future."

The expanded collaboration reinforces Teesside University’s commitment to global engagement and to creating transformative international opportunities for students, staff, and partners worldwide.
