Dear Mrs Pennyman….

A creative writing workshop with Lisette Auton, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and based on the famous letters written to Mrs Mary Pennyman of Ormesby Hall.

Thursday 28 February, 3.30pm - 7.00pm
Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art, MIMA

Open to anyone aged 16 or above who wants to write or to improve their creative writing practice. This workshop is free but booking is essential.

Mrs Pennyman was Secretary to the King’s Own Scottish Borderers (KOSB) Widows and Orphan Fund. The letters are from women whose husbands, sons and brothers were killed in action during the First World War. Research into the letters has been funded by the Heritage Lottery in a project led by Dr Roisín Higgins of Teesside University.

Lisette Auton is a disabled activist, spoken word performer, poet, actor, creative practitioner and theatre-maker from Darlington. She is an award-winning poet, and is part of Penguin Random House's WriteNow mentoring programme with her children's novel The Wrecklings.

Lisette uses her platform as a performer, writer and theatre-maker to make the invisible visible. Through writing exercises and discussion, this workshop will unravel what makes us human, and will encourage different forms of writing.

Winter soup, crusty bread and refreshments will be provided.
