I’m originally from the beautiful twin-island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis in the Caribbean. I hold a BSc Management (Tourism and Hospitality Management) from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus. I went on to complete an MSc and PhD in Air Transport Management at De Montfort University, where my doctoral research focused on sustainable aviation development.
Since completing my studies, I have taught a range of aviation and tourism-related modules across two universities, combining my academic expertise with a passion for advancing sustainability within the global aviation industry.
Outside of academia, I enjoy staying active through sport and currently play American football for the Darlington Steam American Football Team.
One of the most rewarding parts is teaching at the Teesside Skills Aviation Academy, based at Teesside International Airport. Being immersed in a fully functional airport environment provides an authentic learning experience that truly brings aviation to life.
Students benefit from my mix of academic and real-world aviation experience, getting a genuine feel for how the industry works. I love helping them connect classroom learning to real-life practice, build confidence and get ready for exciting careers in aviation and tourism.
Even though my work has mostly been in academia, I’ve built strong connections with airport and airline managers around the world, especially in sustainable aviation. I stay up to date with the latest industry trends and enjoy bringing those real-world insights into my teaching, so students get a feel for how the industry really works.
One of the most exciting moments in my career was presenting my research on sustainable aviation in developing states to ministers, airline leaders and climate change activists at a Small Island Developing States conference. It was amazing to share my work with people shaping the future of tourism and aviation.
Our aviation and tourism courses are designed to reflect the latest industry trends, giving students skills and knowledge that are highly relevant in today’s global market. With dedicated facilities at Teesside International Airport and access to a wide international network of aviation and tourism professionals, students get hands-on experience and connections that go beyond the classroom. This prepares them for careers in the UK and worldwide.
Be open-minded and don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone - apply for that internship, reach out to an aviation leader on LinkedIn, go for it.
Always be ready to learn - the industry changes fast, so keep yourself up to date.
Network, network, network. Your connections can open doors you didn’t even know existed.
Have fun. Enjoy the journey and make the most of every experience.
