Foreword

I am delighted to introduce the Equality and Diversity Report for 2022/23.

Equality and diversity are embedded in all the work we undertake at Teesside University. It is reflected in all the University's values and behaviours and is reinforced by a specific value; that of embracing diversity and actively opposing prejudice.

Teesside University is committed to equality of opportunity in a diverse learning and working environment.

This report shows that we have much to be proud of and summarises the progress we have made against our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan. It details the activities and achievements that have helped us to meet our equality objectives. As we come towards the end of our 2020-23 action plan, it is clear that EDI has become increasingly embedded in our University community. I would particularly like to pay tribute to the work of our equality focus groups, who have taken forward a range of initiatives and events this year, whilst ensuring there are opportunities for staff voice, supported at a senior level by our executive champions.

At Teesside University we believe that education has the power to transform lives and economies. We are proud of our diverse student body and are fully committed to providing an environment where staff and students are supported to fulfil their potential and achieve excellent outcomes irrespective of their background.

Moving forward, our equality and diversity objectives for 2024-27 have also been developed in partnership with our University community. Our commitment to promoting equality, valuing diversity, and fostering a culture of inclusion continues to be at the heart of our efforts to ensure that all our staff and students have the chance to flourish.
