I am delighted to introduce the Equality and Diversity Report for 2024-25.
At Teesside University, equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) are firmly embedded in the culture and values of our University, shaping the way we work, teach, and engage with one another. These principles are rooted in our core values and behaviours and are reflected in our commitment to embracing diversity and actively challenging prejudice.
We believe in the transformative power of education to change lives and drive economic growth. We take great pride in our diverse University community and are committed to creating an environment where every student and staff member can thrive, regardless of their background.
Teesside University is committed to equality of opportunity in a diverse learning and working environment.
As we reflect on the past year, this annual report offers both a snapshot of our progress and an endorsement of our values. This year's report highlights significant progress made under our EDI Action Plan for 2024-2026. It outlines the key activities and accomplishments that are helping us to achieve our equality objectives.
Our commitment has been consistently recognised through a range of prestigious external accolades, highlighting the tangible impact of our inclusive practices. Our achievements are not just milestones; they are a reflection of our ongoing dedication to creating an environment where individuals from all backgrounds feel respected, supported, and empowered to thrive. Whether through inclusive policies, staff and student networks, or community engagement initiatives, we strive to foster a dynamic learning and working culture where every voice is heard, and everyone is encouraged to contribute and succeed.
Crucially, this work would not be possible without the dedication and insight of our staff, students, and partners. I would like to especially acknowledge the contributions of our equality focus groups. Their lived experiences have pushed us to grow and their work in leading initiatives and events throughout the year has helped amplify voices and drive positive change, supported at a senior level by our Executive Champions.
Thank you all for being part of this journey.
