30 Years

This year marks 30 years since Teesside became a university – and we want you to help us celebrate.

In 1930, Constantine Technical College opened to serve the buoyant industry in Middlesbrough and the surrounding areas. It later became known as Teesside Polytechnic and was awarded university status in 1992.

Since then, thousands of students have passed through our doors and have gone on to do incredible things.

Take a trip down memory lane and flick through our photo galleries, see how our campus has been transformed and read people’s fondest memories of their time at the university.

Send your own images and memories to communications@tees.ac.uk and they could appear on this page and on our social media channels.

Your memories

After graduating in 2000, it's great to be back in Teesside. This time as a tutor, helping inspire future generations.

Neil Hall, Course Leader for BA (Hons) Animation

I joined Teesside when it was a poly in 1989 and left after it had become a Uni in 1992, with a new girlfriend and now wife. We had the most amazing time of our life and have some wonderful memories and friends from those 3 short years. Happy 30th Birthday Teesside University and thank you.

Peter Rosoman

Wonderful place, great people, and lifelong friendships 1987-89 and again 1992-93.

Mark Brian

My mum went to the poly, getting women back into education and enterprise – she passed away in 1997, but we watched the University grow and change the area. I always wanted to attend university and I've just finished my undergraduate at Teesside. It has grown so much. The area has always been diverse, but it’s exploded to build a brilliant community.

Colleen Moore

Graduated in ‘97 from an MA Advanced Digital Design. Now I’m Design Director for Wates Construction who are now, ironically, in the frame to expand the amazing Teesside Uni campus. Uni experience was amazing - opportunities, adventures, and friends for life!

Paula Chandler

Really enjoyed my time there and the two HNCs I earned in Engineering and Business Finance have served me very well over the length of my career in telecommunications.

David Hills

I graduated with a Social Science degree in 1992. Loved working behind the Uni bar and enjoyed the Indie, pop, rock, dance nights! So long ago now!

Trudi Sharred

Congratulations Teesside University. I graduated in 1987, Computing Technologies and I credit my career to the foundation that was built by studying at Teesside. Best memories and I had a great time, Southfield pub comes to mind. Still in touch with a number of friends made. Happy days indeed.

George Kong

I was there 1989 1993 studying International Business Information Technology. Never forget my first parmo and the Gigi's burger! Made friends for life and had a great time.

Emma Corbett

I studied engineering back in 2001 and loved uni life so much I decided to come back. I’m currently studying diagnostic radiography and just finished my first year. It’s a complete career change at the grand old age of 42, and a total shock at how things have changed. I remember handing assignments into a kiosk in the tower! Very proud to be a Teesside Uni student.

Emma Ward

I was at Teesside from 1992-96. I lived in Parkside, KES, Chester St and Bush St. Loved Wednesday nights out at Maddisons and then Friday nights at the Union – and football on a Wednesday afternoon, followed by a pint and a chip butty at the Star.”

John Burn

I graduated in 1995 with LLB(Hons) Law. I met and made some fabulous friends - fun times. Now a senior corporate lawyer at a national law firm - bit more serious but still fun. Thank you, Teesside.

Vanessa Walton
