Hydrotherapy Pool
This unique facility was built as part of Teesside University’s £17m investment in health and sports science facilities.
It features underwater treadmills, cameras and variable water flow and provides an optimal environment for patients and athletes requiring supported exercise as part of a rehabilitation or training programme.
This includes the following:
- Dimensions: 9.15m x 3.66m
- Depth: 1.35 shallow and 2.15 deep level
- Temperature: General water temp is 34 degrees but can be adjusted with sufficient notice between 27-37 degrees
- Capacity:1-12 people (room and pool combined)
- Two underwater treadmills 8kmh max speed – one treadmill has front and side live cameras that can be recorded to monitor progression and allow subject to recreate a natural gait
- One swimming treadmill (counter current) allows swimming on the spot. Has remote control variable intensity, max speed is 100m in 55 seconds
- Three BADU paired water jets for massage and opposing current for treadmills. All have variable intensity options including laminar and turbulent flow
- Steps into pool with handrails
- Underwater mood lighting in various colours plus poolside audio for music
- Three poolside showers
- Accessible changing room with ceiling hoist to pool, on request a plinth can be included
- Male and female changing rooms with locker
- Wide range of flotation and exercise aids including aqua joggers, pool dumb bells, weighted vests, pool noodles
- Polar Live Heart Rate monitoring
- Daily water chemical checks carried out (including pH, Total CL, Free CL, TDS and overall water temp)
- Full service schedule and documentation available
- Water refresh takes 90 minutes (all pool water to pass through the filter system)
