Why have we created this course?

Cognitive technologies, such as AI and Machine Learning, are increasingly being used to solve business problems. Indeed, AI provides strong and innovative approaches that can substantially transform the business world and society.

This Skills Bootcamp will provide you with the skills required to run AI processes and support business needs, training learners in essential skills that are in high demand with employers.

What will I learn?

This Skills Bootcamp provides the learner with the skills required to run AI processes and support business needs. Specifically, the Bootcamp will cover how to automate business processes, gain insight through data analysis and engage with customers and employees.

This Bootcamp will delve into Machine learning and AI to identify the differences between the two areas and select the best algorithms to use. Learners explore a typical machine learning workflow using popular and freely available online tools and technologies.

Industry case studies, industry keynote speakers and focussed portfolio work will provide inspiration, context and opportunity to put the theory into practise.

In addition, a bespoke employability programme will equip you with essential software skills for securing a job or new role, where required.

How long is the Skills Bootcamp and what will I need to commit to?

This Skills Bootcamp lasts for 16 weeks with four hours of online contact time each week (2 x 2-hour sessions) plus additional self-directed learning and employability sessions to support you into work or a career change. A bespoke employability programme, delivered by our specialist career team, will run alongside the core delivery, and culminate in career matching activities working with our industry partners.

All of our Skills Bootcamps are designed to be flexible to allow people in work, looking for work and with other responsibilities to participate.

The Bootcamp is delivered online by our experienced academics and industry practitioners with keynote speakers and case studies from our industry partners.

Assessment is undertaken through the development of a portfolio that builds up during the Bootcamp.

For the October cohort, the weekly Skills Bootcamp sessions will run on Tuesday and Thursday from 4-6 pm with additional online employability sessions being scheduled appropriate points during the Bootcamp.

All skills delivery sessions will be recorded and available online if you are unable to join a particular session.

Who is this course for?

This Skills Bootcamp 16-week programme is aimed at developers, potentially managers and/or BI specialists around approaches, techniques, principles and toolkits for using AI and Machine Learning. It is also suitable for anybody wanting to upskill their existing knowledge for a careers change or to gain employment

Who is Eligible?

This Skills Bootcamp is ideal for developers or managers working with large amounts of data and wishing to understand how they could apply AI and machine learning to their business, in their current or future role.

Eligibility criteria for all learners

In order to qualify for this no-cost training, learners need to:

  • Be aged 19+
  • Have the right to live and work in the UK
  • Agree to provide mandatory personal data and supplementary information on their employment outcomes for up to 8 months following completion of the Skills Bootcamp
  • Be looking for a new role, new opportunities or increased responsibility/promotion to a different role which utilises the skills acquired through their Skills Bootcamp
  • Meet the requirements and/or prerequisites for the specific skills Bootcamp, select the bootcamp for more information

Eligibility criteria for free course

  • unemployed within the last 12 months, or
  • self-employed, or
  • employed in an unrelated job looking for a new role in tech

Eligibility criteria for this particular course

To succeed on this course, you are recommended to have:

  • Basic knowledge of Programming Languages and coding (essential)
  • Interest in Statistics and Data Analytics
  • GCSE Maths (preferable)
  • Work Experience of basic programming and/or data manipulation

How much will it cost?

If you are unemployed, self-employed or in employment that is not related to a career in tech then this course is fully-funded and free to you IF you meet the eligibility criteria.

If you are employed in a tech related career and looking to upskill to support a new role or opportunities then your employer can send existing employees on the course and will receive a 70% discount on the £3,500 course fee.

When to the Bootcamps start and finish?

This Bootcamp runs with two small cohorts starting on either the 28th September 2021 for 16 weeks finishing on 20th January OR the 2nd November for 16 weeks finishing on the 3rd March 2022.

What are the routes to employment following successful completion of the course?

This Skills Bootcamp is jointly designed and delivered by our games industry partners, so you can be confident you are learning the relevant skills important to employers. Throughout the 16-week programme, each learner will also take part in a bespoke employability programme preparing you for interviews and recruitment events with our industry partners, giving you the opportunity to network and connect with employers looking for these skills.

Teesside University has agreed formal employer pledges from non-computer games companies to interview participants for employment and networking
