Teesside University is partnering with industry to deliver 16-week Skills Bootcamps in the areas of UI/UX for Games, Data Analytics and Visualisation, and Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.

Designed with industry to provide you with the skills that employers need, each learner will receive four hours of tuition each week delivered by experienced academics from Teesside University and our industry partners.

Participants are only able to study one bootcamp from the consortium which will be the course that starts first.

All of the Skills Bootcamp will be delivered online to ensure our learners can access the course easily. Each Bootcamp will also include a bespoke employability programme culminating with an interview for a job or internship, where required.

This unique programme of flexible online courses form part of an Institute of Coding-led* programme of 20 Skills Bootcamps across the country. They are being developed by the Government as part of the Lifetime Skills Guarantee and Plan for Jobs, in partnership with employers, providers and local authorities.

As part of the Bootcamp you will benefit from a bespoke employability programme delivered by our specialist careers team - supporting you to develop industry knowledge, build your network and improve your confidence.

Costs and eligibility

Skills Bootcamps will be provided at no cost for learners who meet the eligibility criteria and are accepted onto a course. However, you are only able to take part in one bootcamp from the consortium.

Employers who wish to upskill existing employees through the Skills Bootcamps will receive a 70% discount from the standard programme fee - this means employers will pay £1,050 per delegate per course.

This 16-week Skills Bootcamp focuses on delivering UI/UX fundamentals that are highly sought after in the video game industry, and many other sectors looking for UI/UX designers. Eligibility and prerequisites

Eligibility criteria for all learners

In order to qualify for this no-cost training, learners need to:

  • Be aged 19+
  • Have the right to live and work in the UK
  • Agree to provide mandatory personal data and supplementary information on their employment outcomes for up to 8 months following completion of the Skills Bootcamp
  • Be looking for a new role, new opportunities or increased responsibility/promotion to a different role which utilises the skills acquired through their Skills Bootcamp within 6 months of completion of the course
  • Meet the requirements and/or prerequisites for the specific skills Bootcamp, select the bootcamp for more information
  • Study one bootcamp from the IOC (not from Teesside University)

Eligibility criteria for free course

  • unemployed within the last 12 months, or
  • self-employed, or
  • employed in an unrelated job looking for a new role in tech or
  • not in full time education

You can only take part in one bootcamp with the IOC which Teesside University are a partner.

Course costs

Skills Bootcamps will be provided at no cost for learners who meet the eligibility criteria and are accepted by a Skills Bootcamp provider onto a specific programme.

Employers who wish to upskill existing employees through the Skills Bootcamps will only need to pay 30% of the of the £3,500 fee that would normally be charged for this course. This means that employers will only pay £1,050 per delegate per course. Please register your interest to find out more.

The Skills Bootcamps will provide learners with best-in-class digital skills education and deliver resilient pathways to work, with learners receiving the opportunity to interview with an employer upon the successful completion of their Skills Bootcamp.

*The Institute of Coding (IoC) is a collaborative national consortium of industry, educators and outreach providers that are working together to respond to the UK's digital skills gap through the delivery of employer-led digital skills education. The IoC consortium, which is led by the University of Bath, was recently announced by Government as a provider for the Department for Education's (DfE) Skills Bootcamps.
