Teesside University is marking World Book Day by championing this year’s theme, ‘Go all in’, encouraging children and young people to immerse themselves fully in the joy of reading. The celebration aligns with the wider National Year of Reading 2026, a nationwide initiative designed to inspire a lifelong love of books, and reverse the decline in reading enjoyment.

As part of this commitment to reading and storytelling, the University is once again spotlighting its Online Alumni Bookshelf - a digital showcase of published works created by Teesside graduates. Relaunched last year with a refreshed design and an expanded collection, the bookshelf highlights the remarkable breadth of talent within the University’s writing community. Featuring a wide range of genres and voices, the online platform gives alumni authors the opportunity to share their work with a broader audience. Each listing includes a book cover, genre, synopsis and a direct link to purchase, helping writers gain the visibility and recognition they deserve.

Alumni Engagement Assistant, Emily Claughan said: “Teesside’s graduate community includes a remarkable number of talented authors. World Book Day is the perfect moment to celebrate their achievements, and we’re always keen to connect with even more alumni writers who want to share their stories.”

The digital bookshelf complements the physical Alumni Bookshelf located in the University Library on the Middlesbrough Campus, offering another space for students, staff and fellow graduates to discover new titles and be inspired by the creativity of Teesside alumni.

To further support reading and help remove barriers that contribute to reading decline, Teesside University also offers free lifelong library membership to all graduates. This gives alumni continued access to the University Library on the Middlesbrough Campus, encouraging ongoing engagement with books, learning and the wider reading community.

Graduates who would like their work featured on the online or physical Alumni Bookshelf can complete the short form below, and a member of the Alumni team will be in touch. Those interested in accessing our free lifelong library membership at the Middlesbrough Campus can also find further details below.
