A series of online events are being hosted by Teesside University for employers to learn about how they can embed new skills within their businesses through professional apprenticeships.

Throughout June and July, the short online information sessions will give businesses and organisations the opportunity to learn more about the benefits apprentices bring to a workplace.

Covering areas including entry requirements, access to funding and the application process, each session covers a specific professional apprenticeship qualification, ensuring that the information within each session is directly relevant to those attending.

The series of events includes a session on the University’s newly launched Digital Technology Solutions Degree Apprenticeship.

Building on feedback from employers, the University’s industry-leading digital team has launched the new digital apprenticeship offer, focusing on supporting businesses to secure and retain in-demand skills such as AI and Data Analytics, IT Project Management, Software Engineering and Cyber Security.

Teesside University is part of the TechSkills community, and its digital programmes are Tech Gold Accredited, giving employers confidence that its qualifications are high quality and relevant to industry needs.

Teesside University has quickly established itself as a leader in its field for delivering professional apprenticeships which offer students a chance to gain a degree-level qualification while they work.

In 2019, its Level 5 apprenticeships were rated as Outstanding by Ofsted, and it now has a community of over 2,000 apprentices and offers more than 23 qualifications to over 200 employers.

Professional apprenticeships are fast becoming one of the most popular ways for businesses to grow the skillset of their workforce.

Each qualification has been designed in collaboration with industry to ensure that they meet the needs of employers.

Small businesses and organisations only pay 5% of the cost of the apprenticeship, with the government funding the remainder, while larger organisations can offset the cost against their apprenticeship levy contribution.

Jo Burgess, Director of Professional Apprenticeships at Teesside University, said: “At Teesside University, we have an ever-expanding portfolio of professional apprenticeships which we have developed through close collaboration with industry, thus ensuring that our apprentices are having a real impact within their workplace and on the social and cultural success of our local and national economies.

“Putting the apprentice first, we have created inclusive learning pathways that provide the knowledge, experience, and inspiration to become and develop as industry leaders and experts in their respective fields.

“Professional apprenticeships are fast becoming one of the most popular ways for businesses to grow the skillset of their workforce, and we hope that as many employers as possible are able to attend these online information sessions and learn about the benefits apprentices can bring to their organisation,.”
