Middlesbrough firm Seer has sold its AI workflow platform Flytta, a digital joint venture run with Casper Shipping, to London-based AI technology firm Sedna.

Seer was founded by Teesside University graduates Owain Brennan and Hannah Stothard, alumni of the University’s Launchpad and DigitalCity which offers a range of support to fledgling businesses.

Sedna, backed by Insight Partners, has acquired Flytta, an AI-powered workflow automation platform for global trade, originally built by Seer in collaboration with Casper Shipping.

The acquisition strengthens Sedna’s AI-driven operational efficiency and expands its UK presence with a new office in the Tees Valley.

Flytta’s technology, already used by major players like Casper Customs and Pentagon Freight Services, will be integrated into Sedna AI to enhance automation in global trade.

The deal also underscores Sedna’s investment in UK AI talent, reinforcing the country’s role in AI-driven trade transformation.

As part of the acquisition, Flytta co-founders Alan Appleyard and Owain Brennan, pictured above, will join Sedna’s AI leadership team.

Flytta began as an internal solution within Casper Shipping, before being further refined and commercialised by Seer, an AI agency specialising in workflow automation.
