Learning support and resources

Prior to starting the apprenticeship, your apprentice will complete a robust initial assessment to establish their current capabilities and knowledge. They will complete a series of activities, one of which being a skill scan against the apprenticeships standards knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs). If your apprentice is already an employee, their line manager will have the opportunity to contribute the initial assessment process. Other initial assessment activities will compromise of a maths and English assessment, screening for any additional learning needs or disabilities and careers advice to ensure this is the most suitable apprenticeship for them.

If your apprentice requires any additional support, they will have a bespoke student support plan drawn up to support them. We offer a range of student support services, including access to wellbeing and enrichment activities.

Apprentice Community Hub

The Apprentice Community Hub is designed to help our apprentices understand their responsibilities, know what to expect while completing an apprenticeship at Teesside University, access support services, and most importantly, feel like a valued member of the Teesside community. Broadly, this captures:
  • The apprentice journey: chronologically detailing the apprenticeship journey and what each step means.
  • Understanding apprenticeships: supportive resources such as jargon and acronym busters, fundamental British values, safeguarding and prevent.
  • My Digital Life: further information and guidance regarding virtual platforms, including Aptem, SVLE, Blackboard and IT support, and login access to all platforms.
  • Who's supporting you: profiles of staff who will be supporting apprentices on their journey.
  • School information hubs: where apprentices can access information locally within their area.

When apprentices get their login details, they can access the hub.
