Josephine is a rower with the Great Britain Rowing Team
I liked that the course was flexible and allowed me to juggle studying and training full time.
Middlesbrough is my home town, I absolutely love Teesside and I’d started rowing at Tees Rowing Club so wanted to stay close to home – it just seemed like Teesside was the perfect choice for me.
I liked that it was flexible and allowed me to juggle studying and training full time. The assessments were coursework based so I could continue to work and travel with rowing when I needed to.
My social life was limited as I was training full time and on the GB U23 Rowing team. I did enjoy meeting lots of new people on my course and made some friends for life.
On weekends I spent a lot of time visiting the countryside, in particular climbing Roseberry Topping. I also loved spending time in Saltburn – it’s one of my favourite places in the world.
The scheme was a great support. It really helped with buying the equipment I needed for rowing and was a great way to meet likeminded people with a passion for sports.
I’m now a full-time athlete on the Senior Team with GB Rowing, aiming for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
