What made you decide to study a higher education course, and why Teesside?

I always wanted to go to university. I just couldn’t wait to become independent.

As soon as I stepped onto campus to visit Teesside I absolutely loved it! The staff were so welcoming, the dental facilities were amazing and as an added bonus the University is so accessible from Newcastle International Airport.

Everyone made me feel so relaxed – I knew this was the university for me. I was so grateful to get my offer and I’ve never looked back.

What skills have you gained at University?

Since moving to Teesside I have grown in confidence and independence. I’ve learnt to manage my time well and I’ve learnt to adapt to new surroundings. My new skills will help me become a well-rounded dental therapist when I graduate.

What’s the best thing about your course?

The greatest thing is developing professional relationships with patients, peers and staff members. Putting my theory into practice and helping patients is brilliant.

I learn something new every day, meet great new people and get to work on developing my skills for a career I know I will enjoy for years to come.

What do you think of Middlesbrough and the surrounding areas?

It’s very much a town for students – there’s so much on offer from shops, dining, student nights and a string of bars and clubs.

It’s certainly not short of local amenities and everything is so close to campus. There are two hotels in the town centre which is ideal for when family come to visit.

Have you worked during your studies?

Yes – I work as a student ambassador and I love it. The day I moved to Teesside I was helped with directions and guidance by student ambassadors. I was intrigued about their role so found out more and applied myself. I was delighted to get a position.

The job involves working on lots of University events on and off campus and has allowed me to meet other students and explore the local area. It’s made the transition from home to university easier.

Would you recommend Teesside University?

I would 100% recommend Teesside University. If you're willing to move away from home, meet people from all different backgrounds and experience a great student life, this is the uni for you.

There is such a range of courses and societies available, it is easy to find something you are interested in and meet lots of people with similar interests.

What advice would you offer to other students thinking of coming to study here?

Don’t be afraid to take the jump.

Your university experience is what you make it. Go in with a confident attitude and a willingness to learn and meet new people.

Within weeks you’ll settle into Teesside and meet friends for life.
