Why did you choose child nursing?

I spent a lot of time in hospital as a child and witnessed the dedication of nurses and their caring and compassionate nature. Since then I have had a passion for paediatric nursing. Every placement I've completed has been brilliant and I can really see how much I have developed during the three year course. Seeing the difference you make to families is extremely rewarding.

Why Teesside?

I have always known it is excellent for nursing and I was enlightened when I came to an open day. I felt welcomed by everyone and people were really helpful and happy to answer my questions. I wanted to stay relatively close to home and was ecstatic when I got offered a place.

Would you recommend Teesside University?

Yes, I've had a really positive experience at Teesside. The academic staff are superb and are always there to support you. I have had some amazing placements from general paediatric medical wards to more critical settings such as neonatal intensive care and paediatric critical care. The nurses I’ve worked with have been brilliant and have shared so much of their knowledge with me so that I can become a competent practitioner.

What are you doing now?

I am currently on the neonatal unit and this is the place I want to work. The staff are brilliant and I get such satisfaction from helping parents to bond with their new-born despite the challenges they are facing. I’m honoured to go into nursing, and I can honestly say that I love what I do.
