Why chemical engineering at Teesside?

The course offered an optional work placement, where I could gain the exposure to the industry I needed, that would set me up for a role after graduating.

How did your time at Teesside prepare you for your career?

It gave me the technical knowledge and soft skills to perform well in my role. The University’s careers service was also very supportive, and they helped me tailor my CV to apply for different graduate jobs.

What are you doing now?

I’m a graduate project manager in Babcock International, an aerospace, defence, and security company, providing services across the UK, France, Canada, Australasia, and South Africa. I’m on the graduate project management scheme where I support line managers on various projects. I rotate around the different areas of the business on six four-month placements, before eventually moving into my role of responsibility.

Future ambitions?

Ultimately, I would like to work on large-scale projects that can have impact and bring about positive change. I plan to work towards becoming a chartered project manager and chartered engineer.

Would you recommend Teesside University?

Absolutely - I had a fantastic experience. The staff were friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and most importantly, accessible. There is a great atmosphere on campus and the investment and new developments that have taken place are also exciting for the future of the University. There is also lots of opportunities to socialise with other students in the local area.
