Why Teesside?

With over 10 years’ experience as an electrical and instrumentation technician, I wanted to further my career and I needed to get the necessary qualifications to do so.

What do you enjoy most about your course?

I found the project management modules the most rewarding, and the feedback you receive from the tutors is great. I’m still undecided on my future but I’m leaning towards a career in project management as I’ve enjoyed that aspect a lot.

What do you think about Middlesbrough?

I love it here. After working offshore and in Europe I moved home four years ago to work on projects in the local area and since then I’ve seen no reason to leave.

What skills have you gained whilst studying to help you in your career?

Studying again has taught me how to research and problem solve. I found some of the modules challenging, but there’s nothing wrong with picking up a book and reading about something from a different perspective.

Future ambitions?

I’m considering becoming an engineer or pursuing a degree in project management as I’m really interested in this area.

Would you recommend the course?

Definitely. It helps develops your career so much, and ever since completing the HNC and moving onto my HND, I’ve had more job offers.

One piece of advice to people thinking about studying at Teesside?

My advice would be aimed at older people who feel like they think it’s too late, it’s not. It’s daunting at first, but the tutors will help you through it. Take it a module at a time and you'll get there. It’s so rewarding at the end.
