Louise, 48, from Middlesbrough, who graduated from the LLM Master of Laws, has extensive experience in the legal and immigration sector, having spent the past decade building her firm and professional experience.
She said: “I completed my LLB (Hons) law degree in 2012 and at that time I’d intended to progress straight on to a master’s degree. However, life circumstances changed and during that period, I established and developed my own business, which required a significant amount of commitment, resilience, and hard work.
“Although my professional career progressed successfully, completing a master’s degree remained a personal and professional goal, one which I’d always intended to return to.
“I felt this was the right stage in my career to continue my academic development, build on my existing legal knowledge and practical experience, and challenge myself further in the legal field. “I returned to Teesside University for postgraduate study as I’d maintained contact with the law faculty after completing my undergraduate degree and it felt like the natural place for me to continue my academic journey.
“The university is local to me, which allows me to balance my studies alongside my professional commitments and business responsibilities. In addition, I have always found the staff to be both friendly and professional and I value the supportive environment it provided.”
Louise added: “As a mature student, I needed to balance work, study and family life, which required significant organisation, discipline, and time management. As I run my own business and have professional responsibilities, I had to carefully manage my workload and dedicate time to both my studies and family commitments.
“Studying alongside peers from diverse backgrounds and experiences greatly enriched the experience and created a supportive learning environment.”
Louise added: “My long-term career aim is to qualify as a solicitor and continue developing my legal practice further.”
