The University has several systems to support you to manage your research, from identifying funding opportunities to sharing your research outputs, datasets and profile.

Staff profiles, outputs and projects - the Research Portal

The research portal provides public access to staff and student profiles, outputs, datasets and projects. The portal is populated by Pure, our research information system.

Guidance notes on using Pure and building your profile on the research portal are available.

Data management plans - DMP Online

The University's Research Data Management Policy sets the requirement that a data management plan should be developed for all new research projects.

The goal is to support the effective management of research data. DMP Online provides templates and guidance for the development of data management plans, and can be accessed here.

Choose the option to sign in with your institutional credentials and search for Teesside University to access the site.

Sharing research data - TU research data repository

Our Research Data Management Policy sets out the University's commitment to the FAIR principles of ensuring the findability, accessibility, interoperability and reuse of research data.

Our research data repository allows research datasets to be openly shared. Each published dataset is assigned a DOI as a persistent identifier.

Any datasets added to the repository are also included in your profile on the research portal. Find further details in our LibGuide.

Finding funding - Research Professional

We subscribe to Research Professional, a database of research funding opportunities which can be used to set up tailored searches and email alerts

Applying for research ethics review

Applications for research ethics review must be made on our online system. Please refer to the system guidance.

If you are involved in reviewing applications as part of a School Research Ethics Committee, you can also access the review system.

Research and Scholarly Activity time

All members of academic staff at the University have an allocation within their workload for research and scholarly activity (RSA). You can book RSA and keep track of your remaining hours.

Create online surveys

The University subscribes to Jisc Online Surveys, which supports the creation of online surveys including as part of research projects.

You can create surveys ranging from simple to complex, export responses and create reports.

Please note: Student to provide Project ID number of an approved ethics application OR alternatively access request to be submitted by academic supervisor on student's behalf.

Student portal - e-Vision

e-Vision brings information from the University's student system, SITS, into a single screen. Guidance is available once you log into the system.

If you are supervising research degree students, you will be given access to e-Vision to record your supervisory meetings. We use e-Vision to ensure compliance with Tier 4 visa requirements and the University's policies on student supervision.
