I've met so many great students and staff, learnt so much and gained great skills for the future.
I had previously studied Certificate in Higher Education Dental Nursing Practice here and the staff were fantastic, so I knew I would be happy doing my degree here.
I've always had an interest in research and a passion for healthcare, so health sciences is a perfect mixture of both.
The variety of modules in science and healthcare fields means you gain a good knowledge base. I enjoyed learning about clinical genetics, and human development, where we studied its development over time, from birth to old age, as well as human development from the Stone Age.
I love campus life and there is a great mixture of services. The cafes and eateries all offer great food and drink. I study in the library, as it’s a great environment to be in, the staff and services are great.
I love Middlesbrough, it is like home now. Everything is in walking distance and there are some great pubs and restaurants.
I was a member of the Human Biology Society, and the finance chair. I loved the different opportunities such as hosting events and first aid training sessions.
I was a school rep and enjoyed being able to help students and voice student opinions. I also worked at the Students’ Union, and in my spare time, I volunteer at the food bank.
I have gained scientific writing skills and experience of working in laboratories, which I will use in my future career. I have also developed my public speaking skills, which I previously struggled with, but now I feel more confident.
I have applied to do a master’s in clinical genetics, so I can pursue a career in genetic counselling. I’m also interested in, potentially doing a PhD.

Teesside has a great selection of courses and is great for students of all ages. My advice is get involved with student life and activities, you’ll make life-long friends and gain some great skills.
