Why university?

I thought about doing a degree apprenticeship, but most opportunities were in big cities, which wasn’t ideal for me. University felt like the best way to prepare for the real world while meeting new people and gaining new experiences. My brother studied business management at Teesside and landed a great job after graduating, which gave me confidence in my choice.

Best thing about your course?

We were selected for the Greggs Challenge 2025, and pitched our concept to Greggs representatives, and were competing against other universities. I gained hands-on experience in strategy development and content creation, and the chance to work with real clients.

Would you recommend your course?

Yes, although there is a lot of theory especially at the beginning of the course, it has been essential in helping me develop the skills needed for creating marketing strategies and working on live projects. The hands-on experience has been invaluable. I’ve had outstanding lecturers, providing continuous support and guidance, which has boosted my confidence in every module.

Any extra curricular activities?

I’ve been a member of the netball first team since I started here and enjoyed competing against other universities. I manage the team’s Instagram page, recruiting new members, and organising social events. It’s helped me stay active and de-stress, and develop leadership and communication skills.

Any advice to students considering Teesside University?

Engage in all lectures and take advantage of the resources and facilities that are available to you. Creative tools such as Adobe on campus are great to get familiar with, it will benefit you in your career progression especially in my industry, marketing. The Student Futures Team have also been a great asset, helping me look for placements and jobs, and create my CV.

Future ambitions?

I’m looking for a summer internship or placement year before starting my third year. Long term, I’m passionate about the North East and hope to use my skills to contribute to the region’s growth and support local communities. Teesside University has great networking opportunities and they’re giving me the knowledge, experience, and connections to turn my ambitions into a reality.
