Thomas studied an undergraduate and postgraduate degree at Teesside, and is now the owner of Teesside Centre of Health and Performance Ltd.

Why Teesside and why these courses?

I chose Teesside University as it was close to home and I wanted to pursue a career in health and fitness. The strength and conditioning internship with Dr Matthew Wright, and my undergraduate course as a whole, was outstanding – both were fundamental to my development.

Tell us about your current role

As the owner and lead, I am responsible for ensuring quality service delivery for all our clients. I also regularly deliver physiotherapy, strength and conditioning, and personal training sessions.

Tell us about your career since graduating

I completed my MSc with a Distinction after graduating with a first class honours BSc. I was awarded The Graybrook Prize for the highest overall mark across sports rehabilitation courses in the UK, and became a certified strength and conditioning specialist with the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

I’ve gained extensive experience in various roles: head of sports science and medicine for Middlesbrough Women FC, sports therapist/strength and conditioning coach at Teesside Uni and York City FC, and clinical supervisor for sports therapy at Teesside Uni.

Alongside my business, I’m currently a senior physiotherapist in MSK (musculoskeletal) Outpatients at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust. I’m also the cancer prehabilitation lead and part of the specialist acute knee rehabilitation team and minor injuries unit team assessing and rehabilitating acute injuries. I was previously the lead clinician delivering physiotherapy in the orthopaedic fracture clinic.

Ambitions for the future?

To continue developing and growing the my business to deliver the highest quality health and performance provision to the people of Teesside.
