Why did you decide to go to University and why Teesside University Online Learning?

I did A Level History a few years ago through distance learning and then did a Summer University course with Teesside and decided I wanted to continue studying. I chose Teesside because I live local to the area and the online course they offer worked for me as I felt much more comfortable as a mature student.

What do you like the most about your course?

I like being able to do one module at a time which means I can focus all my attention on that one module. There is great support when I need it and there’s always someone available to get the information I need. I can always get in contact with my tutors and I never feel like I’m on my own.

Why did you choose online learning?

It’s flexible and as I do shift work, it makes studying in person more difficult so online learning allows me to study at a time that best suits me.

How have your tutors supported you?

The support from my tutors has been great, with one-to-one meetings and support over email. The online discussion boards are useful for fostering discussions between students and tutors.

Would you recommend Teesside University Online Learning?

I would recommend Teesside University Online Learning as it allows you to study when and where you choose. The recordings of the weekly lectures are available online to view so you can watch it whenever you’re ready meaning you can study alongside your daily life.

What skills and experience have you gained at Teesside that you feel will help you in your chosen career?

I work shifts in the chemical industry and my goal is to now change careers. The course has taught me new digital skills that I didn’t have before.

What are your ambitions for the future?

I’d like to keep studying history and hopefully change careers.
