What was the best thing about your course?

The exposure to the forensic field was great, you are constantly learning and improving your knowledge. The university also provides a range of talks and seminars that you can attend, which expands on what you learn in class. The collaboration from my project supervisor in the police department was especially useful as well.

Did you work on any projects?

One of my projects allowed me to work with the police department so I had the opportunity to use actual drug samples. I studied the forensic effect of a drug on blow fly development. I am able to use all the facilities available at the university which included GC-MS analysis as well as sonication sample tools.

Favourite module?

My favourite modules were Forensic Chemistry and Forensic Biology. They were both taught in a structured way which demonstrated how to assess the sample evidence through observation and sketching. Using analytical laboratories and instruments were both great experiences that added so much to the course.

Did you enjoy your social life at Teesside?

Thanks to the excellent campus and services there is always something to do in your free time. I often went to the gym with my friends to take part in pilates and also used the sauna. The annual Final Fling was also a lot of fun as it was great seeing all the students come together to celebrate the end of the year.

How are the campus facilities?

The campus facilities are state-of-the-art. Being able to use facilities such as the crime scene house was great as it not only gave you the chance to use industry level equipment, but it also gave an insight into how an industry-level job would look like. Facilities such as the gym are also great, especially when you want a break from studying.

Would you recommend Teesside?

Absolutely, I would love to come back again for my PhD. The facilities are excellent and have everything to prepare you for exams and work after graduating. The staff and lecturers care so much for their students and it makes you want to work even harder to achieve your goals.
