Why Teesside?

I first visited Teesside in secondary school, and I knew straight away that I wanted to attend. The staff and student reps did an excellent job of informing us about the university and answered any questions I had.

After learning about the investment and additions to the sports facilities I was blown away by how dedicated Teesside was to an area I am passionate about.

How was the course?

The course is excellent, but also tough. There is a practical component to the course which I really enjoyed and suited my learning style. With it being a postgraduate course, there’s much more autonomy and independent learning. Teesside has specialist physiotherapy teaching suites on campus which meant learning mirrored the workplace. Having access to high-specification equipment was great and also provided an insight into working in industry.

The NHS work placements were interesting and exciting. Learning the skills at university is great but being able to apply those skills in real-life situations was even better. I loved working with new patients and building relationships with them, it’s why I chose this career.

Best part of the course?

I really enjoy the integrated work placements. Helping people is the main reason I started studying the course and being on placement allows me to do this while learning at the same time. The placements are very well run, and by the end I was confident to work independently due to the high quality of teaching.

Favourite module?

Many of the modules are great, my favourite was Applied Anatomy, Physiology and Biomechanics for Physiotherapy Practice. It’s something I have always been passionate about and I had prior experience from my undergraduate degree. The teaching allowed me to become more confident with the subject, develop my understanding and challenging me. We had access to the hydrotherapy pool which is incredible. The facilities are among the best in the country and being able to use and understand them was invaluable.
