Why Teesside?

After completing an undergraduate degree in health informatics, I decided I wanted to continue my education and build on what I’d learned. Teesside University provides an excellent range of courses and after doing some research I found a course that was perfect for me and would allow me to pursue the career I was aiming for.

Why data science?

While studying my undergraduate course I realised that computing and data analysis is an area I am really interested in. After graduating I looked at my postgraduate options and the applied data science course looked to match my interests perfectly.

Favourite thing about the course?

All aspects of the course are great. My favourite part was learning how to code, I really enjoy data analysis using coding. Sometimes a coding problem can be difficult to figure out, but learning to overcome the problem and having the code work is very satisfying.

How is Middlesbrough?

The campus is situated near Middlesbrough town centre, so you haven’t got far to walk to get to any of the shops, cafes and restaurants. Middlesbrough has many beautiful spots outside the centre of town and is surrounded by the countryside which is fun to explore in your free time

Did you take part in any clubs or societies?

I became a course rep. This meant that if any student on the course had any issues, they could come to me and I would do my best to assist in helping them with the problem.

Ambitions for the future?

I would like to take what I have learned at Teesside University and find a job as a data scientist – I think the skills I’ve gained will help me achieve this.

Advice for future students?

Teesside University offer a wide range of courses and the staff are excellent. I am extremely proud to say I study here and I would advise everyone to attend an open day and see how great it is.

Would you recommend Teesside?

I would definitely recommend Teesside to anyone who is looking at attending university. I would especially recommend the MSc Applied Data Science course as the content is interesting and the staff are second-to-none. They always do their best and make sure you get the help you need.
