Why Teesside and this course?

Teesside was the only university to offer this degree, which is unique as I gain data analyst skills and expertise. The modules are focused on both practical research skills and theory, and I’ve particularly enjoyed Coding for Intelligence Analysts.

What do you think about the campus and services?

Student Life has resources to help you grow and develop, to secure part-time and graduate employment, through CV building and interviews. This helped me gain part-time jobs in the Students’ Union and Library.
The Students' Union offers support through educational and recreational activities.
The Library is great, it’s open 24/7, with services including academic referencing and assignment structuring, with different sections, such as a silent floor for individual study and collaborative spaces for group study. The on-campus security team are available 24/7 through the SafeZone app.

What do you think about Middlesbrough and the surrounding area?

Middlesbrough is a pleasant area, with lots of places to socialise such as restaurants, clubs and pubs, with a lot of beautiful areas around it, such as parks, beaches, hills and historical areas.

Any extracurricular roles?

I have worked as a student ambassador and a catering assistant, and joined the Teesside University Climbing Club, which was a great experience, it helped me relax, learn a new activity and make some good friends.

Have you worked on any projects with businesses or been on a placement?

I was on a 12-week research internship on a school database project, where I enhanced an existing system, containing the school badges and uniforms of all UK schools used by law enforcement for victim identification.

What skills/experience have you gained that you feel will help you in your chosen career?

I have gained advanced data analytics skills with a domain expertise in crime analysis utilising a variety of specialised software tools and packages, and improved my research and academic writing skills. I would like to study for a PhD and start my professional career as a post-doctorate researcher.

Would you recommend Teesside and your course?

Absolutely. This course combines aspects of data science and crime analysis to gain specialisation in multiple areas in the UK and overseas.

Any advice to anyone thinking of studying here?

Research the university and the subject you want to pursue. Teesside provides you with all the support to complete your degree.
