I love the diverse nature of teaching English and helping learners from all backgrounds gain qualifications to help them progress to the next stage of their life.
As soon as I completed my degree, the next step was to complete my PGCE. The college stood out because I could gain my English specialism with a teacher training qualification, and I was keen to complete my placement in this area.

The practical elements. We often completed micro-teaching, where we learnt from our peers and then practised these skills on our teaching placement. There was a good balance of independent and taught study.
The confidence to stand up and teach a class full of people - something which petrified me before I started and I felt was a barrier, as I didn’t have any classroom experience. I’ve learnt practical ways to develop as a person and a professional, and gained a real insight into my chosen career. I felt supported through staff feedback to achieve my goals.
I loved it. There was an eclectic mix of teaching styles and support when studying independently. The facilities let you work in a supportive, accessible environment.
Since completing my PGCE, I work as an English teacher at the college. My positive student experience here has made me passionate as a member of staff to ensure that all learners have the same journey too. I feel the biggest sense of accomplishment, I have worked so hard and now I have the career I have always dreamed of.
