Why Teesside?

It offered an excellent opportunity to study my degree close to home.

Best thing about your course?

When I started studying, I was interested in a career in a history-related field but didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do. My course offered a lot freedom to discover what I enjoyed most.

What did you think about the campus?

I spent many hours in the Library – it’s the ideal place to study as it’s a calming place with everything I needed for my assignments. The teaching staff are always incredibly helpful and understanding and helped me to better realise my potential.

Did you do any extracurricular activities?

I completed a summer placement scheme during my second year of undergraduate studies at Kirkleatham Museum. It was a great experience, and I continued to work at the museum as a volunteer for four years. I also completed an internship with the Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art which I thoroughly enjoyed – it gave me a better insight into working in the museums and arts world.

Did you use any of the University’s support services?

Towards the end of my undergraduate studies I had several meetings with the Student Futures team. They helped me improve my CV and gave great advice on job applications and interviews.

What are you doing now?

I work as the graduate heritage officer and volunteer co-ordinator with the Wensleydale Railway Association. I develop and deliver the railway’s heritage programme. This involves producing an education programme for local schools, presenting public talks, leading an oral history programme, and much more. I am also responsible for directing our brilliant volunteer team.

Did your time at Teesside University help your goals?

Yes, my degrees and the experience I gained helped me get the position I am in today.

Would you recommend Teesside University?

Definitely – the facilities and staff are excellent, and there are lots of opportunities to gain experience beyond your studies.
