Job title

Programme Support Tutor for the Department of Natural Sciences, Manchester Metropolitan University

Why did you choose environmental management?

It combined my undergraduate background in environmental sciences with my interest in interdisciplinary fields. The programme offered a unique blend of environmental sciences and management principles. This interdisciplinary approach allowed me to look at contemporary environmental challenges from a holistic perspective considering social, economical and political aspects, which is precisely what I wanted.

How did Teesside support you?

I am grateful for the exceptional support I received during my master's degree.

As an international student in a new country, I was keen to gain work experience before graduating. One of our lecturers brought a part-time job opportunity to our attention, and I was thrilled to be selected. The job was fieldwork-based, which allowed me to travel to various parts of Scotland and gain invaluable experience in my field, equipping me for my next career move.

The career service at Teesside always provided exceptional support. I benefitted from appointment slots to review my CV and mock interviews, which helped in my job search.

Alongside this, I was also working on my dissertation, and my supervisor was a pillar of support throughout the entire process.

Thoughts on the area?

During my stay at Woodlands Hall, I found the location to be incredibly convenient with everything within close proximity. The locals showed great kindness towards students, which made my time at Teesside even more enjoyable. One of the highlights for me was the easy access to Saltburn-by-the-Sea.

Tell us about your current role

I offer guidance and assistance to students while contributing to other educational activities. My primary goal is to ensure that students enrolled in the Natural Sciences programme receive the necessary support they require to reach their academic goals, which includes one-on-one and group tutoring sessions.

Ambitions for the future?

I am deeply passionate about education and aspire to continue my work in academia. My greatest joy comes from teaching students and guiding and mentoring young minds in achieving their academic and professional aspirations. I plan to pursue a PhD to further advance in the field.

Would you recommend Teesside?

I would, due to the outstanding support provided by lecturers, staff and various student services. As an international student, adjusting to a completely new environment can be daunting, but the support offered greatly assisted me and my peers.
