Why university and why Teesside?

I wanted to learn the craft of writing and work with people in the industry. I chose Teesside because they offered a very appealing online course. Their detailed objectives clearly met what I was looking for.

When I made contact, the response was prompt, and this continued right throughout the course. Each tutor was helpful and approachable. The feedback was always encouraging, and student feedback was enlightening.

Why did you choose your subject and what do you like most about it?

I want to write and publish books. I enjoyed engaging with other students and the tutor. I found the module about the publishing industry useful, particularly the idea of preparing a business-like schedule on what I would do after the course. It mapped my route to success, and I applied it diligently when I finished the course and got my book published - the first of many hopefully

What do you think about the services offered?

I found the online Library wonderful. The list of resources and the length of their availability was perfect for me.

What have you learned that you feel will help you in your career?

I learned some wonderful stuff on mindfulness and self-care. I learned about editing, rewriting and having a polished draft ready for submissions and publications.

Ambitions for the future?

I want to become a bestseller.

Would you recommend Teesside University and your course? Why?

Yes. The course is wonderful, professional and entirely beneficial for anyone preparing to enter the publishing industry, writing profession or setting up their own business to deliver training courses to the public or private sector.

Any advice for future students?

Do the work given by tutors. Listen and apply feedback given. Use the large resource bank of library information available. Enjoy the learning process and the journey to achieve your dream.

If you’re an international student, where are you from and why did you choose to study in the UK?

I’m from Ireland. It was the best course available online and it suited my work schedule. It was detailed online in such a straightforward manner and easy to follow.

How has studying in the UK changed you as a person?

The online course has been invaluable to me. I have received local, regional and national recognition for my first book. It opened doors for me to the UK and got me an interview with a UK radio station to promote my book which was extraordinary and raised my profile as an author in the UK.

Biggest achievement?

The icing on the cake for me is to see my book available globally – Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Waterstones etc. which has opened avenues I never thought possible.
