I thought to myself, the Lord taught his disciples to despise revengeful sayings like ‘eye for eye' and ‘tooth for tooth' but how comes he did not make mention of neglecting ‘skin for skin’ exclusively? That was the beginning of my investigation. I started searching throughout the Bible, from the book of Genesis to the book of Revelation; eager to find out what scriptures say about the skin. I had already learnt from school that the skin is the largest body organ and it is second to the brain in it’s intelligence. I wondered how diverse the functionalities of the organ are; a cover to other organs, protection to the flesh, expiration, sensory functions and so on. But how is it linked to the Spirit? That had been one of most pressing questions which this book finally answers. A skin as smooth as a baby’s skin, dark yet beautiful skin, cursed skin, diseased, leprous and so forth. Many are the conditions which the skin can be subjected to. It became more apparent in recent years that the skin is spiritually significant, researches and scientific tests led to transformations of skin colours, blacks becoming whites and some whites getting the blackness of coloured people. At first I saw it on the television, with famous people like the legendary pop artist, Michael Jackson the late. But it got so close, people I knew became strangers because of the changed skin colours and types. But deep within, I still wondered what lead them to opt for the expensive, in fact very expensive skin treatments! I prayed and received more guidance on how to write a book which would teach the children of fire on the cleansing effect of the word of God throughout their lives, even onto the skins which cover their bodies. Life in the early twentieth-century coalmining communities changed very little for the women who dedicated their lives to their miner husbands. The women's working days were much longer than the miners, who typically worked an 8-hour shift. Their living conditions were poor and lack of investment by the coal owners greatly challenged their homemaking skills as they faced life without many basics, such as clean water and sewerage systems. Health services were slow to develop and women's health was only just beginning to be of some importance to the medical profession. Coal-miner wives in the twentieth century also had to cope with demands put upon their families by the First World War, which highlighted the importance of solidarity, a feature of mining communities that had proved itself to be at the heart of colliery village life.
