Jodie McGregor

BSc (Hons) Food and Nutrition*

Jodie's time at Teesside has led to her setting up her own business, The Breakfast Box.

I would recommend Teesside, it’s very supportive and there are so many opportunities available.

Why did you choose Teesside?

Teesside offered the course I was interested in and was close enough to commute and continue to work whilst I was studying. I come from a background in sports and personal training and wanted to develop my understanding of nutrition further.

What did you like most about your course?

I enjoyed the range of topics it covered and as a result it’s opened doors into many different areas of the food industry. I'm currently running my own food business and the course gave me the knowledge and support I needed to do this.

What did you think about the campus and the Middlesbrough area?

Great facilities on campus and always improving. There’s also a real buzz around the businesses in the area, creating opportunities for new start-ups.

What skills have you gained at Teesside that you feel will help you in your chosen career?

I learnt a wide variety of skills for running a business, from my course but also through Launchpad - a start-up hub at the university, for new businesses. I received support from mentors with incredible knowledge in all areas of business and from my course tutors who really encouraged me to think on a greater level and aim high with where I wanted to go post study.

What are your ambitions for the future?

To keep running my business, My Breakfast Box and scale it up. I would also love to support other students going on their own entrepreneurial journey.

What advice would you offer to anyone thinking of coming to study here?

Go for it and embrace everything the university has to offer, make sure you explore the opportunities that are around you. I would recommend Teesside, it’s very supportive and there are so many opportunities available.
