About this scholarship

You may be eligible for £1,200 if you are a footballer and identify as a woman.

This is paid across three years of taught study for undergraduate students (£400 a year) and across two years for postgraduate students (£600 a year).

You are supported to study for a degree while receiving a scholarship and continued athlete support to play football at the highest level. The scholarship is available on an undergraduate or postgraduate course in any subject.

Eligibility

To apply for one of these scholarships you must:

  • be a national, international or professional footballer who identifies as a woman and who can contribute positively to sport at Teesside University through high-level sports performance
  • successfully achieve a place on an undergraduate or postgraduate course at Teesside University
  • be willing to take part in promotional and marketing activity, and support with social media.

Awards are made at the discretion of the Scholarships Panel, who may consider your financial background, prior academic performance, as well as other information provided through your application and at any subsequent interview.

About the donor

The scholarship runs in partnership with Beth Mead MBE, Arsenal Women and England footballer, and BA (Hons) Sports Development graduate of Teesside University.

Beth has celebrated recent success being the standout star at the 2022 European Championship, which was pivotal in England winning. She picked up Player of the Tournament and won the Golden Boot for being the tournament's top goal scorer. Beth was also named England's Player of the Year, won the BBC's Women Footballer of The Year and came runner up for the Ballon d'Or.
