Course overview

Strengthen your workforce with construction quantity surveyors who have the skills to support the financial and contractual management of building projects.

Apprentices learn how to monitor project costs, assist in budgeting, help in selecting and managing specialist contractors, and maintain accurate records to support efficient delivery and dispute mitigation.

Quantity surveyors lead financial planning, cost control and legal compliance throughout the project lifecycle. As infrastructure and construction demand grows, these professionals bring vital expertise that enhances project performance and protects commercial interests.

This apprenticeship includes the knowledge, skills and behaviours typically required to achieve Chartered status or equivalent with the industry’s recognised professional bodies

The end-point assessment mirrors the rigorous review process for professional registration, ensuring your apprentices are prepared to meet industry benchmarks.

Who this apprenticeship is for?

This apprenticeship is ideal for those in the construction industry. With increasing demand for quality and sustainable housing, quantity surveyors help to ensure robust financial planning, effective cost control and full legal compliance across all stages of the construction process. They offer the cost management and commercial insight needed to safeguard margins, reduce risk and deliver successful projects.

Graduates can advance their career in quantity surveying. Typical roles include quantity surveyor, construction surveyor, construction cost consultant, cost engineer, cost analyst, cost manager, project cost coordinator, project cost controller, cost planner and commercial manager. Apprentices could work across contractors, consultancies, or client organisations, gaining the skills needed to manage costs, report progress, and contribute to key project decisions.

Five reasons your business needs a quantity surveying technician apprentice:

  • Strengthen cost control: build the capability to monitor and manage expenditure across home building and construction projects.
  • Support commercial planning: develop talent that can assist with budgeting, valuation and income/expenditure tracking.
  • Improve contract management: ensure effective contractor selection, and administration of contracts and payments.
  • Reduce disputes: maintain accurate records to help resolve legal and contractual issues efficiently.
  • Enhance project delivery: empower your team to deliver financially sound, well-managed projects that meet business goals.
