Graduate's links with sunflower memorial garden

11 April 2016

Teesside University graduate Josephine Galloway is helping to promote an appeal which will bring a floral memorial garden to central Middlesbrough.

Josephine, 26, from Middlesbrough, who works as a fundraiser with Teesside Hospice, is helping to publicise the annual Sunflower Appeal, which this year will include a Sunflower Memory Garden at Middlesbrough’s Centre Square.

The garden will be home to 1,000 handcrafted sunflowers, symbolising the celebration of life. A focal point of the garden will be a Memorial Wall featuring the names of loved ones who are sadly no longer with us.

The garden will be open from Friday 29 July to Sunday 14 August, from 10.00am to 6.00pm, providing a setting for performance and learning activities along with a location for personal reflection and remembrance. A special remembrance service will also be held in the garden during this period, more details to follow soon.

Josephine, who graduated from Teesside University with a BSc (Hons) Youth and Community Studies in 2013, said: 'Studying at Teesside University really helped me to develop as a person and find a job I really enjoy.

'Teesside University is a very friendly place to study and can open the doors to many opportunities. I would recommend my course to anyone wanting to work with young people or in the community, as the programme of study is really diverse and can provide opportunities to discover the route you want to take in life.'
