Mental health support

We recognise that studying with a mental health condition can be challenging and are committed to providing an environment where students with mental health needs can thrive and succeed.

Mental Health Charter

In acknowledgement of the environment we have created for our students Teesside University has been awarded the University Mental Health Charter. We are currently 1 of 15 universities (as of June 2025) to receive the award. The charter confirms that the University fulfils the principles of Good Practice in the University Mental Health Charter framework and is progressing to embedding a whole provider approach.

Specialist mentoring

Our specialist mentors provide individual support to eligible students. To be eligible you usually need to have a diagnosed mental health condition or autism and have funding agreed through Disabled Students Allowances. Where a student is not eligible, our advisers will work with them to help them explore appropriate support to meet their needs.
