The University’s Professional Apprenticeship provision, graduate employment, student support and commitment to social inclusion were all highlighted as major factors in Teesside’s strong performance in the new Daily Mail University Guide (published on Sunday 10 September).

Teesside University ranked 66th overall, out of 128 institutions, and also secured a shortlisting for University of the Year.

This success follows positive results in the recent National Student Survey, with Teesside the highest scoring North East University in seven out of 10 categories, and placing above the sector average in the majority of areas.

Alastair McCall, Editor of the Daily Mail University Guide, said: “Teesside University makes a critical difference to the northeast region and its economy, with students benefiting from some of the most up-to-date facilities that can be found.

“As one of the most socially inclusive universities in the country, Teesside benefits from our inclusion of a performance indicator that captures this aspect of its provision, but its success – ranking 66th overall and earning a shortlisting for University of the Year – reflects also a strong showing in the annual National Student Survey and punching well above its weight in the graduate jobs market, where three-quarters of students go into highly-skilled jobs.

“Judges were further impressed by Teesside’s track record with degree apprenticeships. There are just under 3,000 degree apprentices on campus, offering earn-while-you-learn higher education. Not content with that, Teesside’s newly-opened London campus in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park brings the University’s distinctive style of work-focused higher education to the capital for the first time.”

Teesside University’s mission is to transform lives and economies and it is committed to providing the very best student and learning experience, with £280m invested in recent years to further improve the campus and facilities.

We are delighted to be shortlisted for University of the Year and are particularly pleased to see that our dedication to placing our students at the heart of our university has been recognised.

The University’s transformative approach to learning and use of digital technology also saw it become the first European higher education institution to be named as an Adobe Creative Campus.

Reflecting on the success in the Daily Mail University Guide, Professor Paul Croney, OBE, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Teesside University, said:

“University guides such as this are vital in helping prospective students make informed decisions about their higher education opportunities.

“At Teesside University, we believe that everybody, no matter their background, should be able to access the benefits of higher education. It is welcome that this new guide takes account of the significant work that universities such as Teesside do to support social mobility and unlock potential”.

“We are delighted to be shortlisted for University of the Year and are particularly pleased to see that our dedication to placing our students at the heart of our university has been recognised.

“Teesside University provides educational opportunities that transform lives and we will continue to strive to provide the very best for our students, graduates and the communities we serve.”

The Daily Mail University Guide is the first new university guide in Britain for 15 years and provides a comprehensive summary on a wide range of higher education data, including research, student retention, graduate destinations and student feedback.

The Daily Mail University Guide is published in print in the Mail on Sunday and online on Sunday, 10 September.
