Why did you choose to study at Teesside University?

I found out about Teesside University from friends and family and past students. I had completed my foundation degree and I was looking for a university to complete my bachelor’s degree and wanted to stay close to home. Teesside was the best choice for my needs and offered me a place on the third year of the course.

Did you use the careers service at Teesside University?

Yes, they helped me actively look for work myself and not just depend on a service to find it for me. They provided information on web companies in the local area who were looking for graduates, who I will keep in mind for the future.

What have you done since graduating?

I finished my degree and four days later started my new job in a field I wanted to be in. I’m working as a Front End Developer at Visualsoft Ltd. My role involves building and creating bespoke websites for clients.

How did your time at University help prepare you for your career?

My time at University gave me the confidence and skills to achieve the goals I wanted from my choice in career. It helped me sit down in an interview and use my prior knowledge and experience to answer questions and give opinions on my field and position. Working with live clients also helped me build a portfolio, which I can also use for freelancing work.

What are your ambitions for the future?

I plan on working and progressing at Visualsoft Ltd, I would like to take a more senior role in my team. In the future, I would like to start my own company, creating websites for smaller clients and building up to larger scale companies. I have also thought about completing a master’s degree later on in my career.

Would you recommend Teesside University?

I would recommend Teesside University. It has a very relaxed environment and the lecturers are always willing to help one-to-one if needed. My course offered value for money - the facilities were brilliant and the level of teaching was world class.
