After graduating I joined Atkins, an engineering and design firm. My role is to support the commitment to environmental sustainability, ensuring that infrastructure projects align with regulatory requirements, address community concerns, and promote responsible environmental practice. My main duties involve providing support and expertise in environmental issues throughout the project lifecycle, assisting in conducting environmental impact assessments, engaging with local stakeholders, and supporting with environmental permitting and consenting.

What have you done since graduating?

I’ve actively sought professional development opportunities. I’ve attended workshops and seminars on emerging environmental regulations and technologies, expanding my expertise and staying up to date with industry trends, including using environmental assessment tools and software to streamline data analysis and reporting processes.

How did Teesside help prepare you for work?

My time at university played a significant role in preparing me for my career. The combination of a conservation course, and society and sustainability module gave me a strong foundation in key aspects of environmental assessment, conservation, and sustainable practices, which helped me secure my current position.

Did you use the careers service?

Yes, they played a significant role in helping me secure a job immediately after graduation. They organised mock interviews for me and helped me effectively present my skills and experiences.

Ambitions for the future?

To become a chartered environmental consultant. I am already working towards it, and I’m currently enrolled for practitioner level at the Institute of Environmental Management Assessment.

Would you recommend Teesside and your course?

Yes. The modules are well-tailored and organised in support of career goals, and the facilities, especially the library, helped with all the materials and support I needed for my studies.
