Why did you decide to go to university?

I wanted to develop my career aspirations and knowledge of the aviation industry.

Why Teesside?

Teesside is my local university. I was lucky that it offered the course I was interested in and it enabled me to carry on with my part-time job.

Why airport and airline management?

I’ve always had a passion for aviation and have always wanted to work in cabin crew so it seemed like the best fit. Plus I wanted to learn more and explore the industry further.

Best thing about your course?

I enjoyed the whole subject – and learning about something I’m interested in was a bonus because it meant I did well in the assessments.

I particularly enjoyed learning about safety management. My dissertation was related to Malaysia Airlines and the disasters of flights MH17 and MH370.

Did you use the library?

The Library was a good place to study, as well as the Business School. They were always quiet and I was able to concentrate while doing my work.

What skills have you developed?

I’ve always struggled to perform well in interviews but going to university really helped with this as it gave me a confidence boost and made me realise I’m knowledgeable about the subject area. I also developed my individual and team working skills.

Visiting Durham Tees Valley, Newcastle and Liverpool airports gave me an insight into the industry which was invaluable.

Tell us about Middlesbrough

The area is good, it has a lot of bars and restaurants which is great for university students.

What are you doing now?

I’ve secured a job at Newcastle Airport as a Passenger Service Operative.

What are your long term goals?

I’d like to work in cabin crew for British Airways, Virgin Atlantic or Emirates as I’ve always admired these airlines and would love to be a part of a growing and ambitious company.

Would you recommend Teesside University to others?

Definitely as it offers great courses, the campus is well laid out and all the staff are excellent and friendly – they offer a lot of support and are knowledgeable.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of studying at Teesside?

Choose a subject you're interested in and do it. Even though some of the work can be hard, it's definitely worth it in the end.
