Sadie is combining study alongside work, with an apprenticeship at semiconductor manufacturer, PragmatiC.
Recently, I was selected to represent PragmatIC as an Engineer of the Future, and met with the Minister for Tech and the Digital Economy Paul Scully and MP Paul Howell when they visited the company’s new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility.
I wanted to continue with my academic education while gaining technical on-the-job experience.
Applying the knowledge I have learnt from my modules in the workplace, so I can understand both the academic and practical side of things. I also like how supportive everyone is in the workplace and University – they help when I am struggling with anything, such as my uni studies or a work project.
They’re good – there are multiple areas for students to access depending on the activities they are taking part in, whether that’s socialising with friends or finding a quiet place to study. There is a range of helpful information to access from staff, the Library or online.
I would like to keep improving myself and my skills, and when I finish my apprenticeship I want to take on the role of professional engineer. Recently, I was selected to represent PragmatIC as an Engineer of the Future, and met with the Minister for Tech and the Digital Economy Paul Scully and MP Paul Howell when they visited the company’s new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. It feels exciting to be working in the semiconductor field at a time when the UK is building up a competitive edge on the global stage.
I’ve had a great experience with Teesside University. I would highly recommend my apprenticeship; my lecturers have been so supportive in my studies, and they are quick to answer my queries face-to-face or by email. I am gaining technical experience from doing my job, so I have a greater understanding about the topics covered in lectures.
