Tell us why you decided to go to university and why you chose Teesside.

I chose Teesside because of the university’s reputation for excellence in engineering education and its commitment to providing students with a comprehensive and practical understanding of the subject. The university’s strong links with the industry also promise valuable networking opportunities and potential for real-world application of theoretical knowledge.

What made Teesside stand out was the availability of the Mechanical Engineering course online. This flexibility allows me to balance my studies with my professional commitments, particularly as I work offshore. The ability to study remotely means that I can progress in my career without having to compromise my education.

Why did you choose your subject?

I have chosen to pursue Mechanical Engineering because I am currently employed offshore as an NDT technician. This course will enable me to achieve the UKAS RG2 Category status. I aspire to eventually pair this with the ASME Level 2 Senior Plant Inspector qualification. I believe that my experience, coupled with these qualifications, will pave the way for me to progress and become an Offshore Integrity Engineer (OIE).

What do you like most about your course and why?

What I appreciated most about the course is the opportunity it provides to delve into the intricate details that often go unnoticed. It’s fascinating to understand the behind-the-scenes aspects of mechanical engineering, which are crucial but often overlooked.

In terms of modules, I particularly enjoyed Engineering Mathematics and Mechanical Principles. These modules not only challenged me intellectually but also provided a solid foundation for understanding the core concepts of mechanical engineering. The practical applications of these modules in real-world scenarios were truly engaging and insightful. This has made my learning experience both enjoyable and rewarding.

What are your ambitions for the future?

Upon completion of the HNC, I will be immediately pursuing the HNC in Mechanical Engineering through Online Learning.

Would you recommend Teesside University and your course? If so, why?

I would certainly endorse the HNC in Mechanical Engineering for anyone looking to advance in a field that aligns with their interests. My learning experience has been incredibly enriching and informative.

What advice would you offer to students thinking of coming to study here?

My experience is primarily with online learning, and in this regard, I wholeheartedly recommend it. The flexibility it offers allows you to study at your own pace and at a time that suits you best. Without the option of online learning, I wouldn’t have been able to complete my HNC.
