A mechanical engineer at Teesside University has won a scholar’s award which will help provide support throughout his studies.

Ethan Young, who is in his second year studying a BEng Mechanical Engineering, has been awarded the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) Whitworth Scholars Award.

IMechE offer a range of scholarships to help support the development of outstanding young engineers embark on undergraduate degree level programme.

Ethan said: ‘Being awarded the Whitworth Scholarship is an incredible honour. Apart from the financial support it provides, the scholarship also allows me to connect with engineers who have had similar backgrounds to myself through the Whitworth Society.

‘I believe this will not only be helpful during my studies but will be of huge benefit for the rest of my career.’

To be eligible for the scholarship award, students must have completed at least two years of vocational training in an engineering discipline before entering a degree-level engineering course.

Ethan said: ‘After leaving school I did an apprenticeship in tool making before deciding to go to university which allowed me to qualify for the scholarship.’

To have been awarded two prestigious scholarships is an amazing achievement and is testament to his hard work and dedication and I am sure he is set for a highly successful engineering career.
